Four lithostiatigraphic late Quaternary units are exposed. near Hew (Hu) area, Nag Hammadi,Upper Egypt. These proposed units from the older are:

Hew unit, Halfiah Gibli unit, Semaineh Wadi deposits and floodplain deposits. They can be correlated respectively with the Qena Sand and Abbassia Gravel, Masamas-Ballana, Dibeira Jer, and Ineiba Formations, and the upper part of Arkin Formation. The grain size and heavy mineral analyses further indicate that these deposits are of fluvial origin. The gravels are in general, believed to be derived from the Eocene Thebes Limestone Formation. Those of igneous and metamorphic source are derived from the Eastern Desert mountains. The paleoclimatic conditions prevailed during this time fluctuated from arid to subarid.
