Diagenetic effect on petrophysical nature of Cenomanian and Albian rocks, Mersa Matruh well, north Western Desert, Egypt

Petrographic and petrophysical methods are applied to 24 selected Albian and Cenomanian rock core samples at different depths from Mersa Matroh well - 1. The core samples of calcareous sandstone, dolostone and limestone are affected by diagenesis, cementation, compaction, corrosion, and overgrowth. The results indicate that the effective porosities are of secondary origin.

Values of electrical resistivity of the dolostone samples are the highest. This is due to that the dolostone has low effective porosity, mounce potential and high density. The majority of the Albian and Cenomanian limestone rocks are of a good reservoir quality (high effective porosity and permeability).
