CHAIRMAN'S ADDRESS
The SUN, millions of kms away, with its radiation, is directly and
indirectly responsible for more than 99% of the sedimentary processes. Its warmth is one
of the prime factors...
PREAMBLE
In a cold winter morning, the shivering child closely squeezed between his parents and
seeking behind closed glass windows a share of sunlight... innocently
exclaimed..."wishing she (sun) is nearer. The parental informative response
was... "Something has not to be necessarily near to get its benefits...
As an example, a story from our Ancient Egyptians thousands of years ago may still bestow
guides to social conduct, of wisdom and justice... In summary... The ELOQUENT FELLAH
(Peasant) story (on papyrus, Mid Kingdom ab. 2000 B.C. or 2240 according to Anc. Egypt.
Calendar) got justifiably all his rights for the robbed donkey and goods after being
intentionally let to write his 9 letters of 430 lines of high piece of literature to the
authorities and the Pharaoh. The Pharaoh gifted him for his eloquence and persisting
demand for his rights, and tile responsible persons were punished. The Fellah faithfully
worked for his country... EGYPT"
Also, from the recent past, ab. 45 years ago, during my Ph.D. studies at Stanford Univ. I
got from one of my Professors, a Christmas card having an old World map. Later, I read
Herodotus Book who mentioned that he crossed the "SEA OF EGYPT" to get to Egypt
(ab. 500 B.C., or year 3740 Anc. Egyp. Calen.). Some years passed and incidentally I got
access of a published copy of the ancient map of Ptolemy of the Ancient Alexandria Library
(2nd Cent.) who explicitly wrote on the map "EGIPCIACVM MARE"
(Egyptian Sea) (Fig. 1). This map historically remained the main reference till near the
19th Century. Un-understandably, the name "EGIPCIACVM MARE"
has been replaced, by the now "Mediterranean Sea".Fig. I. Ptolemy's map of Ancient Alexandria Library
with "Egipciacvm Mare".
